Last call for A birth, A tree!
There’s still time to register your child in the very popular program, Une naissance, un arbre/A birth, A tree, which offers to children born from June 2009 to May 2010 the possibility of receiving a Japanese lilac (Syringa reticulata). You have until May 15 to do it!
Ecological investment
“Being able to offer this to Laval families of newborns is a real pleasure for the municipality,” says Laval mayor Gilles Vaillancourt. “As such, we are making an investment in ecology while beautifying the districts of the city. At the same time, we are helping our citizens have a better quality of life with an environment that is healthy and wholesome. It is important that we are all able to take part in this movement to conserve the planet so that our children may benefit from the results later on.”
Registration mandatory
To qualify for this program, you must be a resident of Laval, you have to have given birth to a child between June 2009 and May 2010, you must be registered before May 15 with the community services, culture and communications department, and you must present a proof of the birth (birth certificate, health insurance card, etc.) at the time when the tree is handed over to you. Registering is mandatory and it must be done quickly since quantities are limited. All you have to do is fill out the form online at www.ville.laval.qc.ca (follow the link Community life/Major Events/Une naissance, un arbre), or else telephone Carole Archambault at 450 978-6888, local 5249.
The libraries
For their part, the public libraries of the Laval-Laurentides-Lanaudière region are offering to new parents, through the program A birth, A book, a free gift package, including the hard-cover book Dominique et Compagnie, a reading guide, a music CD and a copy of the magazine Enfants Québec.
Reading awareness
The aim of this program is to raise awareness of reading among the young and the enjoyment that comes from reading. Nearly 2,500 children from Laval have benefited from this program over the last seven years. Please note that parents can present themselves at their neighbourhood library, starting on June 7, to pick up their gift package. (First come first served. No advance registration).
