Is your family prepared?
The City of Laval has joined the Quebec Ministry of Public Security in highlighting Civil Security Week, which will be taking place from May 2 to 8 all over the province.
The goal of this special week is to inform citizens of the various emergency measures involved in civil security.
Be prepared
Civil security concerns minimizing risks and disasters on the territory of Laval, all the while assuring the best state of preparedness possible in the preparation of municipal services and of citizens to support an emergency services organization during and after a disaster such as a pandemic, flood, earthquake, industrial accident, etc.
In addition to elaborating all the possible scenarios in order to intervene quickly in case of a disaster, the civil security division has as its principal task to raise awareness among citizens as to the risks of potential disasters in their environment and the necessity to prepare one’s self to better react if such an event were to take place.
Information available
Civil Security Week will be an occasion to reinforce the culture of civil security in Quebec. To do that, the members of civil security and emergency measures of the City of Laval will be at Carrefour Laval (near The Bay) on Sat. May 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in order to provide information to the population about preparations in case of a disaster. Under the theme Is your family prepared?, experts in emergency measures will be there to answer your questions. The goals of this event are as follows:
• Make civil security and emergency measures known to the population of Laval;
• Encourage citizens to take their first steps so they can assure their own security and that of their family by preparing a family emergency plan;
• Encourage citizens to equip themselves with a 72-hour emergency kit (there will be a demonstration and draw for an emergency kit).
Police and bank kiosks
In order to offer the most possible information to citizens, the Laval Police Department and the Bank of Canada will each have kiosks at this event.
