Bicyclists to take part in IGA Charles-Bruneau mini-tours on June 13

Laval cyclists raise funds for children’s cancer research
Charitable event will raise funds for children’s cancer research

IGA store owners in Laval, St-Eustache and Two Mountains have united in an effort to promote research into the causes of children’s cancer,

with a 30-kilometre family bicycling rally that will be taking place on June 13. Thousands of cyclists will be taking part in the IGA Charles-Bruneau mini-tours, for the benefit of the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau.
Just $5 to register
In order to challenge people to take part in a fun event, but also to raise funds for the cause, the event’s organizers are inviting the public to register in the IGA Charles-Bruneau mini-tours at their local IGA supermarket. The cost to register is $5 per person and it will also be possible to make a donation at the same time to the Charles-Bruneau organization. All proceeds collected will be handed over to the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau.
Two Mountains city councillor Suzette Bigras said she was pleased that her municipality decided to take part in the event. “It’s an event that perfectly reflects the dynamic community spirit of IGA supermarkets and their regard for our population,” she said. “The Fondation Charles-Bruneau leads a cause that continues to assure the best chances for a cure to children who are afflicted by cancer. The City of Two Mountains is happy to be part of this cause, please believe me.”
‘A good cause’: Guertin
“I am happy to be associated with an event like this, which in addition to encouraging a good cause, also encourages people to improve their physical shape,” said Laval city councillor and executive committee member Jocelyne Guertin, who is the event’s honorary president. “I invite all residents of the city and the region to register in the mini-tours IGA Charles-Bruneau and to come pedal with us, rain or shine.”
The bicyclists are expected to turn up at the starting point 45 minutes to an hour before the start of the rally. Those registering will receive a list of departure points. The bike rally routes will be located north of Autoroute 440, south of A-440, and west of the A-13. Some of the sponsors who are participating in the event include the cities of Laval, Deux-Montagnes, St-Eustache, the Laval News and the North Shore News.
Millions raised
Presented from July 6 to 9, the 15th edition of the Tour CIBC Charles Bruneau is a bicycle tour of nearly 600 kilometres across Quebec. Around 20 business people will be joining Pierre Bruneau, who is news anchor for the TVA network, in support of children who are afflicted by cancer. Thanks to the financial support of its numerous partners, this important event generated more than $1 million in donations in 2009. The organizers see their challenge this year in surpassing that number.
“Who does not know from far or near a child who has health problems,” said Éric Hébert, who owns the IGA Extra store in Vimont and who was speaking on behalf of all IGA store owners in the Laval/North Shore region. “The mini-tours IGA is a way of contributing to more research so that one day we may be able to give back to these children a way to enjoy life more.”
