The special event took place at the City Hall of Laval with Mayor Gilles Vaillancourt present. Vaillancourt met with the families and took the opportunity to highlight the importance of planting trees throughout the territory in the name of a child.
He also mentioned that the number of trees available to families has significantly increased since the program began in 2005, which confirmed an increase in the number of births in Laval in recent years. In the future, younger generations will, of course, benefit from the success of the "A Birth, a Tree, program as they live in the heart of a greener and more healthier city. Tree foliage retains dust and germs, which helps clean the air.
Also, a single tree absorbs between two and five tons of carbon dioxide per year and can produce up to 100 kilograms of oxygen through the process of photosynthesis. In addition, Laval libraries were on hand to inform families of "A Birth, a Book." Upon subscribing their infant under 12 months old to their neighbourhood library, they will receive a gift bag which includes a hardcover book published by Dominique et Compagnie, a music CD, and a copy of Enfants Québec magazine (while supplies last). "A Birth, a Tree," and "A Birth, a Book," proving, once again, success all the way.
