Bike squad back this year
The Laval Police bicycle squad is set to hit the trails again this year following a successful run in the summer of 2008. "This year, the personnel has doubled. Last year we had ten, and now we will have twenty," said Const. DiGenova.
The squad will be patrolling all the parks in Laval, including the areas of Chomedey, Vimont, Auteuil, Fabreville, and Ste-Rose.
Laval Police see many advantages to the bike squad, including being a lot more quiet than vehicles so people can't hear them coming and also being able to go places a police squad car can't go.
"Last week, a sergeant on his bike in Ste-Dorothee noticed a car get too close to him so he caught up with the driver at the next stop sign, saw that he was drunk, and arrested him" said Const. DiGenova. "It's been effective because it can go places where cars can't go, so it works."
